You can hypnotize chickens

You can Hypnotize Chickens

A chicken can be hypnotized, or put into a trance by holding its head down against the ground, and continuously drawing a line along the ground with a stick or a finger, starting at its beak and extending straight outward in front of the chicken.

If the chicken is hypnotized in this manner, it will remain immobile for somewhere between 15 seconds to 30 minutes, continuing to stare at the line.

(offtopic) Borrowing Mao's Little Red Book gives Homeland Security visit

From Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters

"Your Rights Online: Little Red Book Draws Government Attention

from the they-have-nothing-better-to-do? dept.
United States
narcolepticjim writes 'An unnamed Dartmouth student was visited by Homeland Security for requesting a copy of Mao Zedong's Little Red Book for a class project.' From the article: 'The student, who was completing a research paper on Communism for Professor Pontbriand's class on fascism and totalitarianism, filled out a form for the request, leaving his name, address, phone number and Social Security number. He was later visited at his parents' home in New Bedford by two agents of the Department of Homeland Security, the professors said.'

This is scary. See Slashdot for over a thousand comments on this (I recommend using their filtering system to only see comments rated +4 or more).

UPDATE: This has been shown to have been a fake.

(outlink] The Anatomy of Bachelorette Party

The Anatomy of a Bachelorette Party:
When you think about it, a bachelorette party is the single guy’s ultimate scenario. A parade of drunken, sexually charged females roaming the bar in celebration of their friend’s upcoming wedding. They just had a private party at a nearby apartment in which they exchanged various sex toys and masturbation aides. From there, they took it to the strip club and watched very gay, but scantily clad muscular men dance and wave their limp junk in their faces. Now they are all here, under the same roof as you, and every one of them is drinking from straws shaped like penises. Talk about a silver platter.

By way of Sexoteric.

(outlink) Words that affect reality - Neuro-Linguistic Marketing.

Words that affect reality is an essay by Dorian Greer on the use of hypnotic language in written marketing. Superficial, though with some new insights. I liked being reminded of pattern interrupts and the Ericksson references on occasional *increased* influence in a non-hypnotized state.

(outlink) Free downloadable eBooks about Hypnosis, self-help, positive thinking

Free Downloadable eBooks. Free downloadable eBooks about Hypnosis. Looks OK, though a bit haphazard collection. I've not yet downloaded and reviewed these, though I know that the work of Dylan Morgan is usually good (and some of it is included).

If anybody know the other things posted here, please post a comment, and I'll pull it up to the front page.
